Why lavender? Why here?
At Foxen Canyon Farms, we practice conservation-based techniques, hand harvesting our lavender bundles with extra care given to the health of our soil. Growing lavender can be tricky, and our method of propagation results in sustainable growth. Reducing our carbon footprint and using organic weed and pest control methods are of utmost importance.”
Dynamic, soothing, even a little romantic, there’s no mistaking the beauty of a vibrant purple flower field. Lavender is sought the world over for its decorative, aromatic and medicinal properties, and the wine country of Santa Barbara County is a picturesque backdrop for life’s most memorable moments.
In addition to our lavender farm, the property also hosts a fruit orchard, gardens, beehives and an events area.
We’re excited to share with you what lavender has given us.
From concrete jungle to wide open wine country
Foxen Canyon Farms is a dream realized for New York City working professionals Nathanael Horne and Gloria Radeff. We’re family-owned and operated - but not quite like you’d think.
While the obligations of NYC for now keep Nate and Glo away from their flower field, their sights are set on soon calling the Santa Ynez Valley home for good. In the meantime, Nate’s dad Stephen handles the on-site operation of the 25-acre farm after being gently coaxed out of semi-retirement in Oregon.
In many ways, lavender has always been the family’s destiny. Growing up in Germany, Gloria was exposed to the benefits of homeopathic medicine by her family, with the healing properties of lavender playing a vital role. She still fondly recalls the comforting aroma that always seemed to follow her mother wherever she went, due in no small part to her love of lavender.
Each time Nate and Gloria came home from a family trip to France, their minds kept returning to the same scenes: gently scrolling fields of lavender, stretching as far as the eye could see. They bought the property in 2014 to have a place to call their own. The first harvest at Foxen Canyon Farms made it clear that this beautiful farm could be more than just a place for one family to enjoy the view.
